Altynay

Teshebaeva

Prior to establishing her law practice with Ceilidh in Ottawa, Altynay lived and worked internationally focusing on human rights issues. For a number of years, she successfully directed a legal aid clinic for children and youth while working on a project to reform the juvenile justice system in the Kyrgyz Republic. Altynay also lived and worked in New York City, first working at the United Nations Secretariat and then at the Consulate General of Canada in New York. 

Altynay has extensive experience and knowledge in the area of family law. She focuses on being an effective litigator and has conducted numerous trials with successful outcomes for her clients. Altynay continues to appreciate and draw from her experience working at the Family Duty Counsel office in the Ottawa Courthouse and at the Integrated Legal Services Office in Ottawa. 

Altynay has a wealth of experience dealing with clients from diverse backgrounds and appreciates and welcomes this diversity.

When she is not focused on a file, Altynay spends time at a family cottage in Quebec and travels to Kyrgyzstan with her two children and husband. 

 

Ceilidh Joan Henderson

LAwyer, Partner

Ceilidh joined Altynay in 2016 and has focused her practice on family law ever since. She a trained Collaborative Lawyer. Before starting her own practice, she gained knowledge and experience about family court procedures while working at the Family Duty Counsel Office in the Ottawa Courthouse. She has successfully litigated multiple motions and trials at the Superior Court of Justice and appeared at the Supreme Court of Canada as an intervener.

In addition to her practice, Ceilidh is an active member of the Barristers for a Better Bytown, an organization that raises money for Ottawa charities. She has been a member of the Ontario Bar Association YLD-Executive committee and contributed to the OBA Insider magazine. She enjoys mentoring students and has judged negotiation competitions at the law school.

Prior to establishing her law practice, Ceilidh worked as an instructor in adult alternative high schools helping and teaching people with mental health issues about healthy living and positive lifestyle choices. Her work with families and children ground her understanding pertaining to the importance of giving quality advice to client’s reorganizing their family life post-separation. Ceilidh also took youth at risk on week-long canoe trips in remote parts of Northern Ontario.

Ceilidh’s experience working with adults and youth with complex needs allowed her to build strong problem-solving, communication, and advocacy skills. Ceilidh spends her free time paddling, skiing and watching, writing, and performing comedy.
